Wind Damage in Tucson and the Surrounding Areas

Severe wind events such as haboobs aren’t uncommon in Pima County. Over the years, windstorms have caused millions in property damage in the area. Although most roofs are engineered to withstand high winds, severe windstorms can indeed inflict roof damage. It’s important to inspect your roof after high winds blow through, and to make any needed repairs before the next rainstorm causes a leak. The team at Blue Mountain Roofing has extensive experience handling post-storm inspections and roof repairs. In the Tucson area, we’re known for providing honest, transparent estimates and professional service.

How Strong Windstorms Damage Roofs

Most roofs are engineered to maintain their integrity in the face of 90-mile per hour winds. Yet, a severe thunderstorm can manufacture wind gusts in excess of this threshold. These wind gusts can lift and displace roofing materials such as shingles, as well as scour the granules away from shingles. The damage is likely to be more severe if you have an older roof. An aging roof typically features worn out sealant and curling shingles, which are more vulnerable to wind gusts.

This isn’t the only way that windstorms can damage roofs, however. At Blue Mountain Roofing, we’re often called out to assess roofs that have been damaged by debris carried in wind gusts, such as tree limbs. A high wind gust is also capable of toppling an entire tree onto a roof.

What to Do After Severe Wind

After a severe windstorm, you can assess severe roof damage from the ground. Walk around the perimeter of the building to see whether debris has fallen onto the roof or whether you notice any missing shingles or other missing roofing materials. You can also check the downspouts for significant volumes of shingle granules. If you notice these issues, you can contact Blue Mountain Roofing to request an estimate for roof repairs at your Tucson-area home or business.

Even if you don’t notice any issues from the ground, however, it’s still possible for your roof to have sustained damage. Rather than risking your health and safety by climbing up on the roof yourself, you can call our experienced pros. Blue Mountain Roofing offers cost-effective roof inspections.

After getting several bids in June of 2024, we chose Blue Mountain to replace the underlayment of our roof and do a few small repairs. They were great to work with—the price was fair, their crew got the work done quickly, and the clean up was thorough. The roof has been problem free since then. That might have been the end of the story, except Mother Nature unleashed a huge microburst of wind on our house last week. The wind came out of nowhere, was loud, and it shook the house. The photo shows the damage. We called Blue Mountain to have them come out and initially they said they were booked up, but had us send the photo to Monte. He came immediately, on a Friday night, after his workday was done to evaluate the damage and stabilize the area so there’d be no further damage. He returned to fix the damage this week.Monte is one of those guys who cares about the work he does and the people he interacts with. That kind of customer service used to be common, but it’s rare these days. We highly recommend Blue Mountain when your roof needs attention!
Response from the owner: Hello Debbie, and thank you for the great review, and the repeat business! I am very proud to have Monte on my team, we are like brothers. We are a local family business, and I grew up with Monte as well as Mark, who is in the office typically. Jesse is my son who was out there with Monte.Monte is very sincere and an excellent example of having someone that cares about what they are doing. He pushed to have you guys get done ahead, due to the urgent situation, by going and working on the roof himself to make it possible. It is not his typical role, but we needed to get the job done in lieu of the weather! Thanks again we appreciate the business!
This was a three day projectCleaning and repair of a previous companies shoddy work and resurfacing roofs of a two story townhome.Devonte did all the work himself and the final project was outstanding. He was on time and completed the three day job within the time that was agree upon. Devonte went above and beyond in the service rendered even prepping our back patio to protected it from any debris that might fall from the roofs. He took time to explain what his objective was for the day and gave us a detailed report at end of each day.Blue Mountain Roofing gave us outstanding customer service both by phone and in person. The Supervisior Monte Hiser was always available to answer questions and explain services rendered. He took photos both before to show us what needed to be done and after so we could see the completed projects. We would recommend this company for their outstanding customer service and work ethic
Response from the owner: Thank you very much, Betty! We are very proud of DeVonte. He has been with us for about six years now, and understood very little of the industry when he started as a laborer. He is actually the foreman of a crew that does multiple types of roofing, and he does not typically work alone. We are a family business and he has become part of the family.Thank you again for the recommendation!
The excellence in every way was so impressive, from the original assessment and estimate informing, explaining details, through all the precise details involved with removing the old roof and installing a new metal roof in a very professional way. All workers were courteous, worked hard and cleaned up each day. I highlyrecommend them.Sheryl North
Response from the owner: Thank you very much Sheryl. Your 7,200 square foot metal roof replacement was a notch on the belt for the boys with all of the double-miter cuts.I have to agree that it looks and functions amazingly!Thank you for trusting us with this project and sharing the quality of craftsmanship!
Clay tile roof repair at a competitive price. Team was professional, highly skilled, very experienced, clean and thorough. In a day where workmanship almost everywhere you look has declined, the Blue Mountain team exemplified excellence. Thank you Victor and Fernando!
Response from the owner: Great to hear James! Thank you for the review I will pass it on to the guys!
This review is long overdue, but a few months ago we were dealing with a persistent roof leak that had plagued us for years. We’d called numerous roofing companies for quotes and inspections—everyone seemed to have a different diagnosis. Then we met Monty from Blue Mountain Roofing. After his inspection, Monty admitted he couldn’t pinpoint the issue right away, but he described every detail the other companies had noticed—without us mentioning them. That transparent honesty and thoroughness gave us real confidence in his expertise because it didn't feel like he was trying to sell us on something he wasn't confident was the solution. He explained that patching wouldn’t be a lasting fix and recommended a full tear-off and replacement (which some other companies also had recommended). His pricing was better than the competition, and he suggested the perfect materials for our situation.Throughout the process, Monty answered all our questions—day or night—and the crew finished the new roof in just two days. They even coordinated the crane removal for our rooftop AC with no hassle. Since then, no leaks! When a tiny skylight leak showed up later, they came right out and repaired it for free.Excellent work, fair pricing, and outstanding service. We highly recommend Monty and Blue Mountain Roofing!
Response from the owner: Thank you very much Nathan for taking the time to write this review, very heart felt. Thanks again!
It's taken me a while to leave this review just because life has been busy. So here it is...When it first reached out to Blue Mountain Roofing, I received an estimate that turned out it was way off. How did they handle this?Blue Mountain roofing owned up to the issue, was honest about what had happened and we worked together to resolve it. We're all human, and we all make mistakes. When mistakes are not systemic - and this clearly was not - how a company handles this is what separates a mediocre company from a great company. The job went on to completion and I would rate the work as excellent. The foreman and crew (all great guys) showed up on time, kept me informed at every step, addressed any concerns I might have, and did a terrific job.I will definitely do business with Blue Mountain again and I strongly feel you will be in good hands if you do the same!
Response from the owner: Thank you for the review and the feedback Jonathan, it is much appreciated and I will pass it on to the others!
